Sources and editorial review

Last updated: 13 October 2026.

Which sources we use

  • For a product or project: its developer's website, documentation, official repository, release notes and published terms.
  • For an institutional resource: the university, research organisation, government agency or scholarly publisher responsible for it.
  • For pricing and availability: the current provider page. A directory copied elsewhere is not sufficient evidence.

Authority has a scope

A provider is an appropriate source for what it offers and the terms it publishes. Its marketing is not independent proof of accuracy, scientific validity, superiority or performance. A university-hosted resource is attributable to that institution, but each underlying claim still needs the relevant evidence.

What “primary source reviewed” means

We checked the linked source and used it to write the factual summary. The displayed date is the editorial source-review date, not a live uptime check or a hands-on product test. “When to consider it” and “Check before choosing” are editorial guidance, separate from the provider's claims.

We do not invent star ratings, daily free-use counts, success rates, benchmark results or tests. Model names, pricing, account requirements and regional availability are not assumed from a page title.

Unconfirmed and historical entries

Entries with missing, unrelated, inaccessible or insufficient source material remain outside the reviewed recommendations. Historical pages are labelled and excluded from our reviewed sitemap until reviewed. An access failure does not by itself prove that a provider has closed.

Academic integrity

Language editing, citation management and learning resources may be included. Services promoted for misrepresenting authorship, purchasing assessed work or academic cheating are not recommended. Suspect listings are paused for review.

Corrections and submissions

Submissions enter a moderation queue; submitting a tool does not publish or endorse it. Send the provider's official source and the exact claim needing correction to our contact address. A material source or product change requires another review rather than an automatically refreshed date.

Ranking and commercial relationships

The current source-reviewed collection is not a star-rated ranking. Source buttons link to the cited provider or institution. Any future paid placement or affiliate relationship must be clearly identified alongside the relevant placement and must not replace editorial source review.
